Welcome! I am an Assistant Professor in the School of Politics and International Relations at the University of Nottingham and a Faculty Affiliate of the University of Notre Dame’s Center for the Study of Religion and Society. My research and teaching interests primarily lie at the intersection of political violence and repression, with particular attention to the role of religion.
My scholarly work has appeared or is forthcoming in the Journal for the Scientific Study of Religion, Journal of Conflict Resolution, Oxford Research Encyclopedia of International Studies, Oxford Research Encyclopedia of Politics, Sage Research Methods Cases, and St. Antony’s International Review, among other publications. I have also engaged with various media outlets, such as The Washington Post's Monkey Cage blog, NBC News THINK, the SiriusXM POTUS Political Channel, USIP's On Peace podcast, and the Research on Religion Podcast.
I have received support for my research from the National Science Foundation, the University of California Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation, the Berkeley Institute of International Studies, the Berkeley Center for the Study of Religion, and the Phi Beta Kappa Northern California Association. I was a Junior Visiting Researcher with the Varieties of Peace Program at Umeå University in 2019 and a Visiting Fellow at the Uppsala Forum on Democracy, Peace and Justice in 2015. I hold a Ph.D. and M.A. in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley, as well as an M.A. in Conflict Resolution from Georgetown University.
